2018 Endorsements
Emily has been endorsed by leaders such as Congressman Ed Perlmutter, former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and former House District 9 Rep. Alice Borodkin. She has also been endorsed by grassroots organizations such as the Colorado AFL-CIO, the Communications Workers of America, Colorado Ceasefire and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. The following is a full list of officials and organizations endorsing Emily for state representative from House District 9.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders
“Emily Sirota stands for the progressive values and platform that we have all been fighting for — pay equity, paid family leave, protecting the environment, Medicare for all Americans, and tuition free colleges and universities. I know she will continue to fight for these values in the Capitol for all Coloradans, and that’s why I am proud to endorse Emily Sirota for Colorado State House District 9.”
Former CO State Representative Alice Borodkin
"Having represented House District 9, I am thrilled to endorse Emily Sirota for state representative. Emily is a working mother, and an energetic leader whose work with children and families has prepared her for this job. I am confident that Emily will continue the fight for women’s rights and for policies that help improve the lives of families throughout the district. I urge every voter in this district to support Emily in the June 26th primary and then in November’s general election.”
U.S. Representative Ed Perlmutter
"Emily is smart, passionate, hard working and dedicated to her community. She has years of experience in public service and education, and I know she is going to work hard to serve her district and continue advocating for policies that improve people’s lives. I’m proud to endorse Emily Sirota for House District 9.”
Former Colorado Representative Karen Middleton
“As a former legislator, I know what it takes to be an effective and successful representative. I am delighted to offer my full support and endorsement to Emily Sirota for House District 9. Emily's leadership, experience, values and perspective reflect the very best of what I look for in a candidate. "Emily has demonstrated experience in building coalitions and engaging stakeholders. I appreciate her deep engagement in a wide range of issues that impact southeast Denver. She has displayed an unwavering commitment to women’s rights and reproductive freedom. I encourage every voter in House District 9 to support Emily Sirota in the Democratic primary on June 26th.”
Former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb
“Emily Sirota is a progressive with strong roots in her community, and deep experience in government, social work and education. As a working mother, raising two children, she knows the challenges families face and she has shown a commitment to doing everything she can to fight for the underprivileged. I also would highlight that she and her husband work hand and hand together for a better community, It reminds me of myself and Wilma working together for a better community. I know from my own public service how important her experience is and how it will help southeast Denver in the legislature -- and that's why I'm proud to endorse Emily for state representative for House District 9.”
Colorado Senator Mike Merrifield
"I got to know Emily all the way back in 2011 when as a new mother she fearlessly ran for school board and faced down the big money forces that have been trying to privatize our public schools. During that campaign, Emily knocked thousands of doors, working day and night to campaign to protect her community’s public schools. Emily is once again standing up for our schools -- campaigning for state legislature on a strongly pro-public-education platform. This fight for our teachers and our schools is personal for Emily -- she is the daughter of a public school teacher, she is the product of public education and she is now the mother of a public school student in Denver. She also helps run an early childhood education center in Denver. Emily’s experience and her record tells you that she is not the kind of person who just says nice things about public education during an election and then turns around and works to undermine our public schools. She is the opposite -- Emily’s time fighting for public schools means we know we can count on her to fight the good fight everyday she’s in the legislature.”
Colorado Senator Nancy Todd
“Emily has a clear record standing with our teachers in defense of public education, and she has extensive experience in early childhood education. At a time when Colorado’s education system faces such daunting challenges, our legislature needs true education champions. Emily is one of those champions, and I am proud to endorse her for House District 9.”
Colorado Reprentative Jonathan Singer
“Emily and I are both social workers and working parents, and I have been so impressed by her courage in campaigning for a bold progressive agenda. Emily’s deep experience in government, community organizing and education make her exactly the kind of leader we need in the state legislature. I’m proud to endorse Emily Sirota for state representative.”
Colorado Reprentative Mike Foote
"The Colorado legislature needs as many environmental leaders as possible, and Emily Sirota has proven herself to be one of those leaders. From Day One of her campaign, she has been fighting to empower communities to do everything they can to protect public health and the environment. Emily’s years of experience in public service and her commitment to the environmental cause is exactly what Colorado needs as we combat climate change and transition to a clean energy economy. I’m proud to endorse Emily Sirota for House District 9.”
